My Kindergarten Picture
My teacher was Mrs. Coon.
I remember making an elephant out of clay.
I remember having chicken pox and hiding in the car with my sister
as my mom does into school to tell them I will be out for awhile.
We moved in the middle of my first grade year.

I was the only minority in my class.
I remember prayers at school
I remember the joy of buying lunch at school,
Most of us took our metal lunchboxes with a thermos.
Tether ball was my favorite thing at recess.
We wore dresses but at least I had a parachute when I jumped out of the swings.

I discovered the joy of reading.
We had conversational Spanish that was televised from the district office.

We only lived about 4 blocks from school. It was safe back then.

Lathrop Jr High 1967-70 (7th-9th grade)

I loved 7th grade girls glee and I can still sing some of the songs
I learned like The Impossible Dream, On the Street Where She Lives, and
Christopher Robin's Lullaby
I could not take glee in 8th because Physical Science was at the same time.
I needed that to take Biology in the 9th. Every 8th grader girl had to take
one semester of sewing and one semester of cooking.
I still have all my report cards packed in a box somewhere.

My dad graduated from there is 1952 and my mom in 1953.
My dad helped with his 60th HS reunion in Sept. 2012.
Over 30 of his classmates attended his service in 2013 when he passed.
Santa Ana High, 1970-73
In 9th grade, a new High school opened so half the kids went to the new
High school and the rest of us stayed. We moved to high school when we were in 10th.

I made many of my own dresses.

Spinsters(Service group)We baked cookies and took them to nursing homes.
We collected toys for needy children, we had parties and scavenger hunts.
Usherettes, we got to go to the plays and concerts for free.
I was on the swim team my senior year and it was easier to have short hair.

Applied to several colleges and got accepted at Long Beach State, San Diego State and UCI
I went to UCI and graduated in 4 years, at age 21.

In 1975, I got hired at the US Postal Service Part Time.
I decided to stay there so that I could work and still be home with my kids.
