Mad Hatter Tea Party

I have been involved with most of the teas at our church, but this is the first one were I had to think outside the box of the traditional tea. I got a lot of ideas from Pinterest when I put in Mad Hatter. Once I got some ideas, I decided to use what I had and then added to it. Though white plastic tablecloths were provided, I decided I wanted color so I did purchase the green table cloth and napkins knowing I will use them again. I used my pansy plates I had from another tea along with Renee's white plates she got from my mom and dad. I also used my tea pots and teacups I had collected over the years that I have used in previous teas. My focus now was the centerpiece and the little accents to make it reflect the theme and still be what I liked. I set everything up on my dining room table as I went along using ideas from watching the Alice in Wonderland Tea party clips from U Tube. I had a little mouse from a MacDonald's kid meal of long ago. So I used that. When I went away with my friends, I found a plate to use in my tiered centerpiece. I also found a child's porcelan tea set that I included to add whimsy to the table. Renee and I went shopping at MIchael's to get the things she needed to bake for my table. They happen to have the flower shaped chargers in a bright deep mauve and it really brought made a big difference with the plates. There were butterly's in the movie and I found butterflies on a wire and I wrapped one around each honey stick I found at Sprouts.

Setting up the night before.

Thisis how my table looked after I set it up the night before the tea. The whole church was decorated and the women did a great job too! Some of the centerpieces really reflected the Mad Hatter. I focused on the key, and clock and incorprated them into my place settings. I had all day Friday to get the final things done for my table while Renee backed cookies and made cupcakes for my table . I was really happy she was able to go and make goodies for me. I found baby roses at Wal-Mart with just the color I was looking for. I made the signs Eat Me and Drink Me and included scripture. I wrapped the top of each chair with white tule.

The little travel clock was my dad's and perfect for the theme. I added a key and a little clock face charm on the clear napkin holders I already had. Those items became symbolic to me as well as the roses. "Take time to smell the roses." They also made me think of how dad enjoyed the roses he planted after my mom passed away. The key made me think about this... Who holds the key to your heart?

The cupcakes were filled with the confetti flavor cake mix by Pillsbury and special frosting. They were in a rose decorated cup since the queen wanted red roses! The butter cookies and chocolate were wrapped and the the little tag said "Taste and see that the Lord is good" Psalm 34:8
