This page brings back such good memories of my childhood.
I can remember staying awake at night and looking out the window and watching the wind blow things around. I would look at the branches as the wind blew. I would watch the shadows cast from the moon. I liked the sound of the wind as it would get loud and then get quiet. It made me think of God who was strong like the wind and though I could not see God, he was there like the wind.
I also think about being out in the yard with my dad racking the leaves from the big tree. I would rake them into a big pile and jump in it and play in the leaves. I liked the sound of the leaves as I crunched them. They were not even that colorful but I still liked them.
You may think this to be unusual if you are from an area where there are lots of trees and and you have distinct
seasons. But I am from Southern California and we can have "summer" through November. I grew up in the city and we
would take "country drives" to see the trees and enjoy the beautiful colors. Those were great family outings.
Today I get to enjoy the leaves change color and fall off my front yard tree. The leaves are so
pretty and colorful. The tree is the mark of seasons and the seasons are a mark
of time in my life. Fall is when I get to bring out my scarecrows!

Here is a picture of our kids when they were little. They
never dressed in scary outfits, and combat was the favorite.

In fall of 99' my friends and I went to Idywilld for a weekend
retreat. We went in late October and the leaves were changing
colors. We were in the mountains. I remember we went for a walk
and there was this colorful, beautiful tree. I wanted a couple
of leaves fresh from the tree, but I was afraid to go and pick
some. Just at the right moment, a young boy drove up and I asked
him if I could pick a couple of leaves. He gave me the funiest
look , but said okay. Yes there were lots of leaves already on
the ground, but I wanted to preserve the leaves when it's color
was at its peak. I have one leaf in my Bible and one under
the glass top at my desk at work. Some days when work is so very
stressful, I study that leave and think about that great fall day.
One of life's little blessings that I am glad I can appreciate.
Another gift from God to enjoy.
"As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold
and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease."
