"Watch the Birdie"

June 17, 2003. Renee and I go to Wal-Mart and buy a bird feeder and bird seed. Renee wants to put the feeder in her pet cemetary. She is going to do a journal too so this should be a nice joint venture.

June 23 - no birdies visiting so just in case, I will be taking about the birds that are all over our neighborhood, The locals mountains which are just a couple of blocks away seperate Corona from Mission Viejo and then San Juan Caistrano. So some of the swallows started coming over here. There were not to many when we first moved here in 1990. But each year they come back and go back to the same houses to nest. You can read about them here: Swallow of Goya and Swallow Festival

June 24 - Now that my mind is on birdies, I stopped near work to take pictures of some ducks. I think they are cute. Another car and I stopped to let a mother duck and her ducklings pass. It made me smile, a good way to start the day!

June 25, The food I put out is all gone. I wonder if there are rats out there eating the food. I sure hope not! I will put more out and see.

June 27, I finally caught a little bird with red on its front at my feeder! I will have to check more often. The food is going fast so there has to be more than one bird there.

June 30, I have seen several birds there and that is why the food goes so fast! I think I need a bigger feeder!

July 2, I was out early cause the birds were chirpping and I looked and the feeder was empty. So I put the last of the food in. A few minutes later there were more birds there. Later I went to Wal-mart and bought more feed. Then I stopped at Big Lots and found this tall cute birdfeeder that had no price. I figured it would be about $20. Well they were so busy that the manager let me have it for $7.00! I filled it half way because it is too heavy for the pole. They may need some time to get use to the colorful new feeder.

Close up picture and facts here.
and here too.

July 10, I have seen 5-6 birds out at once and they are actually funny to watch. The argue over the spot and it is just funny! I did get to see a new type of bird, must be a song bird of some sort because it was bigger and prettier than the house finch. I found a birdbath for $15 at Big Lots and I set it up on Friday and I had to fill it today. I plan on getting one more feeder to. I found the big blue feeder at this Big Lots for $19.99 so I did get a great deal.

July 17 I went out this morning and there was no food yet 5-6 birdies were on the ground eating all the seeds that were there. I gave them some food and then I asked my husband to take a few pictures for me by the feeders. You can see the birdbath on the right. I have to fill it every day because it has been so hot!

July 18, I added this picture that was taken Sunday. Then today I bought one more feeder. It has been fun doing this assisgnment and the birdies are here to stay. Thanks Darylynn!

July 25, Well a pair of doves has joined the group. They sit on the branch behind the feeders. They eat the seed that has fallen to the ground and that is a lot of seed! I found so much seed there that I will not fill the feeders for a few days. I have seen the other birds on the ground so I will see what happens.
